Ondo State has received a new governor in the person of Arakurin Rotimi Akeredolu. He took his Oath of Office at the Akure township stadium and was sworn in governor of Ondo state.
Rotimi Akeredolu won the gubernatorial elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress Party on the 26th of November 2016 beating his closest rival Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in the keenly contested election.
In his first speech as the Governor of Ondo State, titled journey to redemption, Arakunrin Akeredolu said Ondo state can rise out of the dust in great faith and once more be the most vibrant of economies in Nigeria, if everyone work together.
Dignitaries present at the stadium include the APC Chairman Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, APC Party Leader Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinibu, Former APC Chairman Bisi Akande.
Others include, Minister of Solid Minerals Dr Kayode Fayemi, the Senate President Senator Bukola Saraki, Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Governor of Oyo State Abiola Ajimobi, Senator Dino Melaye, Minister for Labour Chris Ngige, and other dignitaries.
The Ajasin family, APC Party chieftains on the national and state levels and other notable Nigerians were also present.
Earlier the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi was sworn into office after taking his oath.
In the meantime, speaking on the monumental task that lies ahead of the new governor, socio-political analyst and commentator, Dr Thomas Willson, while speaking on Breez FM’S News magazine programme, reporters diary, said Akeredolu has to hit the ground running and institute his cabinet as soon as possible.
Dr. Willson said the new governor must also seek ways of working with sound minds be it from his political party or the opposition in fostering urgent solutions to the pathetic plight of Ondo residents.
Concerning labour matters and unpaid 8 months salary arrears, Ondo State Chairman, Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Sola Ekundayo, said he perceives better relations between the union and the new administration adding that what workers needed within a week, was at least a month salary.
