President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Sen. Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, on his election as Vice-President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) for Africa. Gaya was elected to the new position at the 135th General Assembly of the union in Geneva, Switzerland. Buhari, via a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, noted that “Gaya possesses the experience, credentials and vision to serve in the international body.’’ He urged him to use his position to promote the goal of making the world a better place through people-oriented legislation in a democratic society. The president expressed confidence in Gaya’s ability, noting that he is a brilliant lawmaker. He said the lawmaker was eminently qualified to serve “the IPU with dedication and integrity representing the collective voice of African parliamentarians on priority issues that promote peace, security, development and prosperity in the continent’’. The president said that the lawmaker would enjoy the Federal Government and other well-meaning Nigerians’ support throughout his tenure as vice president of the union.
