Residents of Ondo State have been assured of the state governments support in maintaining a polio free status.
Ondo State Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) gave the assurance during the flag off ceremony for the 1st round of National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDS) held at the State Specialist Hospital Akure.
According to him his government will give its full support for the well-being of the state residents.
Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Dr Taye Oni while giving his speech encouraged parents, guardians and care givers to ensure that their children are immunized.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said it is targeting no fewer than 115 million children for polio immunisation in Nigeria and across Africa, in its continuing bid to wipe out the crippling disease from the continent.
In a statement released, WHO revealed that all children under five are being targeted by more than 190,000 vaccinators in 13 Central and West African countries, including Nigeria, Congo and the Central African Republic.
According to WHO, polio cases have decreased by over 99 per cent since 1988
