The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has called for the establishment of a Police Trust Fund.
He said during a chat with the media in Abuja that establishing the fund which should be financed as a first line charge was the only way to adequately fund the police in the country.
He said that a bill for the establishment of the fund had been with the national assembly for several years but regretted that it remained unpassed.
Mr. Idris also appealed to Nigerians to join hands with the police to make the nation safe for all members of the public.
The IGP pleaded with members of the public to readily volunteer information to the police in order to check the activities of criminals.
